As a certified Lionfish Hunter through NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration), I have been creating ways to use the invasive lionfish species to benefit environmental and school programs.
I have compared the abundance of colorful fish around our reefs over the past few years and have been very upset with the decline. Working with these local organizations and dive shops around the Florida Keys to search out and eliminate lionfish. I have been a SCUBA Instructor and rebreather diver for the past 25 years, first in California then in the Florida Keys.
At the local lionfish derbies, I spend hours cutting venomous spines off hundreds of lionfish in order to make jewelry, fileting them for ceviche and making the others ready to be transferred to education/research programs around the world . I am dedicated to eliminating the invasive lionfish from the oceans where they are hurting the populations of other beautiful fish from our coral reefs.
